How Auto-Apply Coupons Work

Auto-apply coupons make it easier for your customers to get the best discount without extra steps. Instead of requiring customers to notice a coupon and click to apply it, the app can automatically apply it when it’s the best option — giving a seamless experience and ensuring the right savings show up.

  • Auto-apply OFF (default behaviour): Coupon discounts are displayed on the product page as clickable options and are only applied once the customer clicks them. If there’s also an automatic discount available for the product, both the coupon and the automatic discount are shown until the customer chooses to apply the coupon.


  • Auto-apply ON: The app evaluates visible discounts and chooses the best one. If the winning discount is a coupon, the app auto-applies it for the customer (no click required).

Important: If the best active discount for a given product is an automatic discount, Shopify will still apply it at checkout even if it's hidden in the app. The app only controls which discount is visible; it has no control over the application logic.


How Auto-Apply Works


  1. The app only considers visible discounts (Live, not Hidden) when deciding what to display on product pages.

    The app compares the best coupon against the best automatic discount available for the product.

    When Auto-apply is OFF:

    • A coupon is displayed on the product page only if it gives greater savings than the best automatic discount.
    • If the coupon is better, it will appear (clickable) alongside the automatic discount.
    • If the automatic discount is equal or better, the coupon is hidden.

    • Customers must click a visible coupon to apply it to their cart.

      When Auto-apply is ON:

    • The app selects the single best visible discount.
    • If that discount is a coupon, the app auto-applies it for the customer — no click required.
    • If that discount is an automatic discount, Shopify applies it at checkout as usual.
  2. At checkout: Shopify still enforces its own discount rules and ensures the customer always receives the best eligible discount, even if multiple discounts exist.
